Susanna Leonard Hill’s Annual Halloweensie Writing Contest!

Here’s my entry! The setting is in Ireland, where Halloween originated, so experts say.

Title: Hallows’ Eve WC99

Luch’s family was on the run.

Bright yellow twin lights beamed in the cold October night.

Masked animals were on their tails.

“This way. Quick!” squeaked Dad.

Squishing their bodies through a tiny hole, they scurried through a maze.

The ground shook as the church bells rang.

Luch got the goosebumps. “Mom! I’m hungry.”

“No worries, little one. Tonight, you’ll have your fill. It’s Hallows’ Eve.”

Dad stuck his nose through a crack. “It’s safe. Let’s go.”

Luch admired the candles glow-in-the-dark.

There was a spread of Goodies laid out on the top of the tombstones.

Happy Halloween, Luch!

As a child, I spent my summer holidays by the swamp catching tadpoles and other creepy critters or running after wild animals. I wanted to become a veterinarian when I grew up. But destiny turned my life around - I moved to Italy, where I obtained my BS in Environmental Sciences and Territorial Management. When not working in our family-run business, I write, read, play with clay, doodle, and go on scavenger hunts in the woods, followed by my six cats.
