Recap Jurassic Rat Book Presentation-Riassunto Presentazione del Libro Jurassic Rat

I wished I could have posted earlier regarding my book presentation in June. I had way too much on my plate. I attended the online course about Plastic Pollution with Cornell University in July to better research the topic I’m tackling for an informational picture book I’m working on. I participated in The Children’s Book Academy course for illustrators, followed by the 50th Annual SCBWI Summer Conference – The Big Five-Oh. The latter was epic!

Regarding the book fair in June, ‘We are finally taking off!’ The general program of the event, “viaggiAMO con I LIBRI,” was strongly supported by the Municipal Administration and particularly by the Councilor for Culture Nicoletta Cucinella. The event was the result of collaboration with the active Tortona Library System.  It was organized with the vital support of the Librialsole Association with the ambitious goal of promoting culture, books, and reading. The Review started in Viguzzolo and unfolded in some municipalities adhering to the Tortona system. In Arquata, it began as of 18 and 19 of June and will continue through the summer.

I was thrilled to present my debut picture book ‘Jurassic Rat.’ I would like to thank the librarian, Chiara Cabano for inviting me to the event and helping me organize the presentation. We had no idea of how many would attend. With COVID, many were still worried about roaming the streets and engaging with others. But, my presentation went well, and the children and parents were happy. The children were terrific and curious about my props. Especially the rat skeleton I had personally assembled. But during all presentations, a child is bound to ask a question you can’t answer off the bat.

“What comes before the Jurassic period?” Oh gosh, I couldn’t remember until later. It was the Triassic period. This little guy was so intelligent, a future little scientist, in my opinion. He even named the fossil I had exhibited. “I know what that is. It’s a trilobite.” Wow! I was impressed. He was only seven years old. And his dad bought my book. Yay!

Here are a few pics my friend Susan Thomas took during the event.

And here are the children’s masterpieces that they created during the activity session.

Book fair

Solo in seguito. “So cos’è. È un trilobite.” Oh! Sono rimasta colpita. Aveva solo sette anni.

I’m a nature-loving adventurer and children’s book author whose life has been an exhilarating journey. Originally hailing from Ottawa, Canada, I developed a deep fascination for wildlife while chasing after wild animals in the swamps. Although I initially aspired to become a veterinarian, my path took an unexpected turn when I relocated to Italy. In Italy, I pursued my passion for nature by earning a BS in Environmental Sciences and Territorial Management. This educational experience further ignited my love for writing about the natural world and its diverse wildlife. I’m an active member of several professional organizations, including SCBWI, 12x12PB Challenge, and the Children’s Book Academy. Constantly seeking growth and connection within the industry, I engage with fellow writers and storytellers. Despite my affinity for all creatures, I humorously admit that my nine cats can be the most challenging animals to handle. When I’m not wrangling my feline friends, I spend my time writing, doodling, playing with clay, gardening, and exploring the enchanting Italian countryside with my husband. I also love preparing homemade pasta, showcasing my culinary skills.

    1. Yes, indeed. Now I’m taking a break until the end of August. I think I’ll work on my illustrations and go for long walks in the woods. I hope you have a wonderful summer.
