It’s that time of year again. You got it. Susanna Leonard Hill’s 6th Annual Valentiny Writing Contest.
Here’s my entry. Theme: Bravery Max WC 214
From Me to You – WC 209
“I’ve figured it all out, ” said Tiny Tat.
“What?” said Arny.
“Last year, I didn’t get any hearts because they were scared of me. But after a whole year in class together, they know I’m okay. Right?”
“Ya, you’re right,” Arny said. But he knew her classmates were still afraid of her. Those long claws and big eyes and ears would scare anyone. An aye-aye is weird. But he couldn’t tell her that. He had to figure out how to sneak a valentine’s card under her desk without her noticing.
He cut and pasted hearts all over an envelope. Then he snuck into his classroom. As he was about to deliver the envelope, his friends walked in.
“You’re not going to give Tiny Tat a card, are you?”
He stood straight and said. “You guys are mean. Just because she’s different doesn’t mean she can’t have a Valentine’s card too. She’s my friend, and friends don’t let each other down.”
Arny dropped the card on Tat’s desk.
The school bell rang. Tiny Tat strolled into the classroom. She reached under her desk, and to her surprise, there was a stack of envelopes. She turned to Arny. “See, I told you I would get a Valentine’s card this year.”
I’m glad Arny stuck up for his friend. I had to google an aye-aye– what a cool animal! I enjoyed reading your story.
Thanks, Sarah. Aya-aye’s are particular indeed. A bit creepy.
The best good deed is one done anonymously. This was a nice story! Good luck with the contest:)
Thanks Colleen. Susanna is so funny. I love her Blog.
Good for Arny doing what was right and standing up for his friend, doing what he could to keep her from being hurt (even if it turned out not to be necessary 😊) That took courage!
Thanks Susanna!
Love it! Good job for sticking up for a friend!
I like Arny!
Wow! Yours is the second story I’ve read featuring an Aye-Aye! Very cool. Good luck!
Sorry for the late reply, thank you.
