Another writing contest put on by Susanna Leonard Hill for Valentineโs Day.
It must be 214 words or less and must be written for children, twelve and under.
The theme is about curiosity.

Hereโs my Valentine’s story.
Title: Creative Kate WC 210
Kateโs mom was always busy cleaning on Saturday mornings.
โMom, will you play with me?โ
โLater, darling.โ
Kate watched her mom bring the garbage outdoors.
โMom. Where does the garbage go?โ
โA truck comes by and picks up the trash bins.โ
โYou mean the truck has hands?โ
โNo, darling, there are men that drive the truck and empty our trash.โ
โOh,โ said Kate, not entirely convinced. โMom, can you play with me. Iโm bored.โ
โWhy donโt you play with my pots and pretend youโre a cook. I have to finish the ironing.โ
โAww, okay,โ Kate sighed.
Kate noticed a package of flour sitting on the counter.
She pulled out the ingredients from the fridge and set them neatly on the counter.
She was careful not to make a mess when mom walked into the room.
โUh-oh!โ thought Kate.
โOh, my goodness, Kate! What are you doing?โ
โCookies for daddy.โ
โI see. Let me help you.โ
โYouโre not angry mom?โ
โNo, dear. While I vacuum later on you can paint, would you like that?โ
โPaint? Yes,โ cheered Kate.
Kateโs mom placed the painting kit on the counter.
โItโs Valentineโs Day today, surprise me.โ Kateโs mom said, leaving the room.
Kate dabbed her fingers into the red paint.
Soon hearts were everywhere.

Oh my!! Will Mom be surprised! Good luck in the contest!
Oh dear Colleen, I think you know the answer.
Indeed I do!!
Now that will be quite the surprise! Teehee. This was very cute. Good luck!
Thanks Heather. You know how kids are when unattended.
Oh, no! Mom will be VERY surprised! LOL.
If I leave my grandchild alone for 5 minutes I find beautiful art work on my walls.
Well, you’ve been meaning to redecorate, right? ;0
Of course!
Hearts everywhere! ๐
I think you can guess, right?
I like Kate! ๐ A cute and fun story. Best wishes with the contest!
uh-oh! I’m curious to see what happens next!
Who knows Kelly.
Cute ending, Eleanor! Your story reminded me of my son. He’s always asking me to play with him, but I’m always busy doing chores. Ah, I feel guilty! But we are doing a Valentine’s Day art project together when he wakes up from his nap today. I promise I’ll stay by his side so he doesn’t end up surprising me like Kate surprised her mom lol
It really happened with my grandchild. His drawings were so cute I couldn’t say anything. Grandmothers!? It took him 5 minutes to create a masterpiece. Hope your project goes well today, I’m sure he’ll appreciate it.
Mom’s in for a big surprise! Fun story. Good luck!
Thanks Nancy!
Paint always works! Kate is a sweet girl. Good luck!
Thanks Corine. I hope to be able to connect with you more often.
Fun story. Mom is in for a treat ๐ Good luck!
Oh yes indeed!
Kate was a very busy little girl!
Thank you, like most kids today. Sorry for the late reply.
Well, Mom has a trusting heart…I hope she has the patience for a little more cleaning on Valentine’s Day! Cute and relatable, Eleanor! Great job!
Just saw this, sorry. thank you!
Hahaha! Never give a child paint and say “Surprise me!” That’s an open invitation to trouble! ๐ Thanks for a fun Valentiny story, Eleanor!
