Odin, Dog Hero of the Fires, written by Emma Bland Smith

The talented author of Journey and Claude: The true Story of a White Alligator shared her latest book with me. It’s a tear jerker.

As I read this story, tears welled up in my eyes. I couldn’t imagine being the owner of Odin and leaving him behind, fearing he may never survive the firestorm, and having to live with that thought for the rest of my life. But, Odin refused to follow his master. He was a goat-guarding Great Pyrenee, and he wouldn’t leave his charges. He became a hero.

Odin, a courageous and intelligent dog that saved nine goats. This is a remarkable story of survival, hope, and love—a must-read for animal lovers.

As a child, I spent my summer holidays by the swamp catching tadpoles and other creepy critters or running after wild animals. I wanted to become a veterinarian when I grew up. But destiny turned my life around - I moved to Italy, where I obtained my BS in Environmental Sciences and Territorial Management. When not working in our family-run business, I write, read, play with clay, doodle, and go on scavenger hunts in the woods, followed by my six cats.
