Week #9 2020 Photo Challenge

I took this shot while roaming the forest in search of edible mushrooms. The old abandoned house untouched for decades was covered with abundant vegetation. I had noticed a few squared stones poking through the greenery, and as a crept closer, the door was half ajar inviting me to enter. I had to go in, I couldn’t resist.

I always liked creepy places. Old buildings, caves, and secret passages in ancient castles that may conceal secrets. Italy has an abundance of places to discover. So, as I stood on the threshold, I wondered how it was way back then to live without central heating and living in the middle of nowhere. Then I noticed the steep stairs that led to the basement. I went down the stone staircase. The basement floor was covered with cobblestones, and in a corner, there lay a stone trough. What kind of animals did they breed at the time? A vehicle couldn’t reach the home. Did they use donkeys, did they go on foot?

Tell me – are you an adventurous person, do you like discovering secrets and ancient cultures?

Let me know in the comments if you have time. I’ll make it easy for you. A, B, or C?

A – adventurous

B – scary cat

Quali animali allevavano all’epoca?

A – avventurosi

B – fifoni

C – altro

I’m a nature-loving adventurer and children’s book author/illustrator whose life has been an exhilarating journey. Originally hailing from Ottawa, Canada, I developed a deep fascination for wildlife while chasing after wild animals in the swamps. Although I initially aspired to become a veterinarian, my path took an unexpected turn when I relocated to Italy. In Italy, I pursued my passion for nature by earning a BS in Environmental Sciences and Territorial Management. This educational experience further ignited my love of writing about the natural world and its diverse wildlife. I’m an active member of several professional organizations, including SCBWI, 12x12PB Challenge, ICWA, and the Children’s Book Academy. Constantly seeking growth and connection within the industry, I engage with fellow writers and storytellers. Despite my affinity for all creatures, I humorously admit that my nine cats can be the most challenging animals to handle. When I’m not wrangling my feline friends, I spend my time writing, doodling, playing with clay, gardening, and exploring the enchanting Italian countryside with my husband. I also love preparing homemade pasta, showcasing my culinary skills.

  1. I share your love of old buildings. BUT I might have wanted a friend to go with me down the stairs. 🙂 Love the fireplace!

    1. I’m very brave, although I wasn’t sure if the floor would hold my weight. Being abandoned for so long I was careful to walk along the walls just in case it caved in. I know I’m crazy at times.

        1. I’m very adventurous, do follow me I would love to show you around. Sorry for the late reply Angie.

  2. I love old buildings! And ones that have been neglected and “lost in time” are a fascination to me. But I’m not sure I would call myself an adventurous person. IF I think it’s safe, I will go. It helps if I have another brave soul with me!
