Last night I had Christmas dinner with the international girls in Italy. It’s always fun to gather once or twice a year. We had a wonderful meal, and a few courageous gals sang Christmas Carols.
Mi sono divertita ad una cena con le amiche ieri sera. Dopo cena alcune coraggiose hanno cantato delle canzoni di Natale. E’ Natale no? Bisogna entrare nello spirito gioioso delle feste.
The waiters’ sort of stared at us while others smiled.
Tis it not the season to be merry?
I also learned a few things!
Most of my friends are from the UK. I always say they talk funny but I am thankful that my friend Susan was sitting beside me and managed to translate for me.
They say bits and bobs instead of Knick Knacks?
OR Arty Farty = from the Cambridge English Dictionary; arty-farty definition: trying too hard to make other people admire your artistic knowledge or ability
AND Willi Nilly = This expression has two slightly differing yet related meanings – it can mean ‘in a disorganised way’ or ‘whether with or against your will’ https://www.ecenglish.com/
