Halloweensie Contest

Susanna Leonard Hill’s 8TH Annual Halloweensie Contest

Happy Halloween everyone. Can’t wait to read your spooky stories.

Here are my 2 entries.

A Scary Night for Scarecrow. WC100

Scarecrow felt a shiver go down his spine as the wind howled around him. He looked up at his friend Mousy that lived in his hat.

“I’m scared with all these pumpkin heads glowing in the dark, and you?”

“Yep and that cauldron of boiling water at your feet don’t help much.”

Scared Scarecrow wiggled and jiggled until the wooden cross that held him captive broke. As his feet touched the ground, a strand of straw fell from his hat and into the cauldron. Purple smoke rose from the boiling water. FIZZ!

The magic spell broke.

“We’re free at last!”

Hollys H-Allergies on Halloween Night. WC 98

The wolves howled as tiny Holly set her six cauldrons in a circle, one for each wolf.

“This will be the tastiest Halloween ever,” she said waving her stick in the air.

“My friends, stare into the cauldron before you. Ready?”

They all nodded.

“Smidgy, smudgy, icky poo, we all go to the party too. All dressed up in yucky stuff to grab our treats and play a few tricks.”

ZAP!

In disguise, they knocked on each door ‘til their bags were full. They munched and crunched on their way to the next, but then…

ACHOO!

“Oh no!”

Happy writing everyone. Good luck!

As a child, I spent my summer holidays by the swamp catching tadpoles and other creepy critters or running after wild animals. I wanted to become a veterinarian when I grew up. But destiny turned my life around - I moved to Italy, where I obtained my BS in Environmental Sciences and Territorial Management. When not working in our family-run business, I write, read, play with clay, doodle, and go on scavenger hunts in the woods, followed by my six cats.

  1. Two cute stories, Eleanor! I’m glad Scarecrow and Mousy were freed from their spell, and I like Holly’s chant – exactly the kind of thing a kid-witch would say 🙂 Thanks so much for joining in the Halloweensie fun!
