Here’s my entry.
Title: First Day Jitters
The first day of middle school began with a mix of excitement and nerves.
I longed for time to pause, even just once. Middle school filled me with dread.
Every bend in the rural road brought back memories, vividly recalling past times.
I remember the scent of spring flowers on the prairie. The wind whipped through my hair as I ran. I picked dewy flowers to give to my mom. A smile touched her lips as she arranged the flowers.
Bees buzzed throughout the long summer days. Nothing but swamps, rivers, and animals to explore.
Winter brought a snow playground with slides and igloos.
I wonder, even if I like simple things, can I still enjoy them without getting mocked?
Summer fun ended, and school began. Now, as a middle grader, I begin a new chapter.
New companions, new teachers. Fall leaves swirl at my feet on the way to school.
The wind’s chill made me shudder.
A rustling pile of leaves gathered at my feet, and I could smell the damp earth. I pause, then
turn and fall onto the soft blanket.
Closing my eyes, blocking out the world, I tell myself everything will be okay.
A big thank you to the prize donors.

Unfortunately, life happened, and time ran out to post my entry on FWF. Oh well, next time. Thanks Sue.
