National Grandparent’s Day.

Tomorrow,  September 9th in the US and Canada is National Grandparent’s Day.

But I’m lucky. My grandchild lives downstairs, and I get to see him every day.

Saturday is cleaning day. During the week I don’t have the time nor the energy to do it. I catch up with laundry and what not and try to cut out some time for myself. But today, my grandchild knocked at the door, then banged, then cried by the time I heard him. I was outside cleaning the terrace. Poor darling, as soon as I opened the door he pulled his arms up, I picked him up, and he clung to me like a little monkey.

I’m currently writing another picture book and also illustrating it, inspired by my grandchild. It’s titled, I’ll do it!

Why? Because my grandchild that will turn three in November always says,” I’ll do it.” The thing is that this morning I was desperately trying to finish washing the floor before my husband came back from work but the little one insisted he wanted to help.

I gave him the mop and tried to prepare my spaghetti sauce instead, hoping it would keep him busy for at least ten minutes. Then he said out loud, “Look! I cleaned the floor. Come see.”

I put my burner on low and peaked around the corner. Well, as in my illustrations for my book, he had dipped the mop in the pail without wringing out the water. Needless to say, there was a pool of water on the floor. I convinced him to go outside and clean the tiles instead. Here’s the little guy at work.

We had lunch together then he said he was tired. He noticed the beds had no sheets. “Are you going to fix the bed?” he said. I threw a few on the bed and we lied down. He asked for a book sitting on my night table. They are mostly children’s books. Lucky me, he picked The Gruffalo. “Let’s read.” He added.

He’s not three yet and I love the idea that he wants to read. I was hoping he would fall asleep, but no way.
